The George Washington University School of Business will reconvene its third annual Business & Policy Forum, “The Future of Work is Now,” to explore the opportunities and implications the future of work holds for technology, organizations, employees, and policymakers.

On Wednesday, October 22, attendees can look forward to expert speakers exploring how to navigate AI risks while simultaneously harnessing its power to optimize their sectors. With topics ranging from adapting and thriving in the workplace of tomorrow to sustainability and social impact, panelists will delve into current issues, opportunities, and innovations. Valerie Abend is a globally recognized cybersecurity and risk management expert with thirty years of experience in the public and private sectors. She has advanced cyber resilience as a board director, consulting practice leader, former regulator and industry practitioner.

As the CEO of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), Abend leads the global financial industry’s go-to organization for sharing threat intelligence and providing resources to financial institutions to respond and protect against cyberattacks. Her leadership focuses on strengthening cyber resilience across the global financial system.

Before her role at FS-ISAC, Abend served as the Senior Managing Director for Accenture’s Financial Services Security, where she led a $2.5B double-digit growth business and engaged with large banks and insurance companies globally. Before leading FS Security, she was Global Lead for Accenture’s Global Cyber Strategy and also founded the Accenture Cybersecurity Forum’s Women’s Council, convening women CISOs and board directors to address leadership, diversity and technical challenges in cybersecurity.

Abend is a board director for the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) and serves as a Sector Advisor to the Board of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC).

Abend has received numerous awards, including being named a 2024 NACD Directorship 100 Honoree for her work in cybersecurity board governance. She is a frequent media commentator and thought leader across major media outlets. Abend is an alumna with an M.P.A. in International Science, Technology and Competitiveness with honors from GW.

Arellano leverages a combination of strategic thinking, creative problem solving and operational execution to drive lasting change for companies and individuals. Her expertise lies in building high-performing teams aligned around a shared vision, driving quick execution and achieving clear results.

Most recently, Carla was an Operating Partner at Greyhound Capital, a growth equity fund based out of London. In this role, Carla was responsible for conducting due diligence on management teams to inform investment decisions and partnering with deal teams and Portco’s C-suites to align talent, culture and organization design to achieve the investment thesis.

Before that role, Carla was a Partner in McKinsey’s People and Organization Practice and founding leader and COO of McKinsey’s OrgSolutions, serving clients on culture, organization design and talent. Under Carla’s leadership, OrgSolutions grew its top-line nearly 10x and the team from 20 to 200+ FTEs, serving 400+ clients annually. As a Partner, Carla led efforts with C-suite executives on talent strategy, growth strategy, culture transformation, M&A and turnarounds. Blackburn is currently Chairman of McKinsey U.S. Government. Scott is a fourth-generation U.S. Army veteran and, from 2014-2018, served in government as an executive at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as Chief Transformation Officer and later as interim VA Deputy Secretary and Chief Information Officer.

Blackburn remains active in the veteran community, routinely working with more than two dozen veteran not-for-profits in a pro bono capacity. From 1988 to 2022, he served as CEO, guiding the company’s transformation from a U.S.-based organization to a worldwide enterprise with 30 offices across 20 countries. Gallup now leads the world in public opinion polling and workplace consulting, conducting ongoing surveys across 160 countries, representing 96% of the world’s population.

Clifton is the creator of the Gallup Path, a metric-based economic model that links human nature in the workplace with customer engagement and business outcomes. This model is used in performance management systems by more than 500 companies worldwide. He also launched the Gallup World Poll, which gives voice to the world’s 8 billion citizens on the most pressing global issues.

In 2015, the Clifton Foundation and Gallup gifted $30 million to the University of Nebraska to establish the Don Clifton Strengths Institute, supporting the early identification and development of gifted entrepreneurs and future business leaders.

She then founded Future Proof Lab, providing advisory, executive leadership coaching and keynote speaking services to clients across the globe, including Google, Allianz, Oracle and AARP.

She began her career assisting Dr. Henry Kissinger and holds an MBA from Columbia University. While being a lecturer there and at Hong Kong University, she is also a FORWARD Fellow at RMIT University, head of faculty for the Financial Times Board Director Programmes and graduated from the Institute for the Future in Silicon Valley.

Cassin Dyson serves as the Executive Director of the F. David Fowler Career Center at the GW School of Business.

In this role, Dyson has contributed to a significant data-collection initiative aimed at broadening job recruitment, boosting the school’s rankings, forging new corporate partnerships and helping students and alumni achieve their career aspirations. He has also expanded its real-life consultancy and mentorship opportunities through the Careers360 program and revamped the resources it provides students.

He also seeks to launch a C-suite executive speakers series, increase alumni engagement more dynamically and open greater career fair networking opportunities for students to ultimately build a pipeline to internships and mentoring with GW Alumni.

Dyson brings over a decade of experience in higher education, with roles at Texas A&M, Arizona State University (ASU) and Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he has built a proven track record of empowering students to success. Before joining GW, he served as assistant director at SMU’s Hegi Family Career Development Center.

As a proud first-generation college graduate, Cassin holds degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University, Arizona State University (ASU) and Southern Methodist University (SMU).

His experience spans tackling complex development challenges in agriculture, health, energy, education, finance and economic growth—helping advance the Sustainable Development Goals through practical, scalable solutions.

Beyond Accenture, Ford serves on the board of the Society of International Development, championing more effective, innovative and sustainable approaches to global development. He is a frequent contributor to industry panels, working groups and thought leadership on the future of sustainable development.

Ford joined Accenture in 1998 from Thomson Reuters and became a Managing Director in 2003. Prior to his current role, he was a leader in Accenture’s global energy practice with a strong emphasis on retail strategy and digital innovation.

President Granberg is an accomplished academic leader who strengthens teaching and research excellence across disciplines, supporting a diverse and inclusive community of students, faculty and staff and collaborating with all stakeholders to drive transformative change and increase institutional prominence. She became the first woman to serve as GW’s President on July 1, 2023.

Previously, President Granberg served as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and was a professor and senior leader at Clemson University.

As RIT’s chief academic officer, President Granberg oversaw nine colleges, two degree-granting units, and international campuses in Croatia, Dubai, Kosovo and China. In this role, she oversaw key initiatives, including increasing undergraduate student success, expanding doctoral education, improving facilities for instruction and research and leveraging RIT’s strengths in innovation, creativity and cross-disciplinary collaboration to advance the university's academic mission.

At Clemson, Granberg was the Senior Associate Provost and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs. She chaired the development and implementation of the institution’s strategic plan, which spurred growth in research, graduate studies and inclusive excellence. In addition, Dr. Granberg developed a university-wide strategy for faculty recruitment, retention, compensation and development.

A nationally recognized scholar in the sociology of self, identity and mental health, President Granberg began her career in academia as a Professor of Sociology.

President Granberg holds a B.A. in history from the University of California at Davis and an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from Vanderbilt University.

Dr. N. Sharon Hill is a professor of management at the George Washington University School of Business and serves on the editorial boards of Organization Science and Personnel Psychology. She has extensive teaching experience, including on-campus and online courses for undergraduate, MBA, Ph.D. and executive education audiences.

Dr Hill’s teachings and research focus on three primary areas: leading the virtual/hybrid workforce, leading teams and leading change. Her research regarding virtual work aims to understand the positive and negative implications of virtual work arrangements such as virtual teams, remote work and hybrid work, including factors that influence their effectiveness. Dr. Hill also researches teamwork and organizational change.

Her research has been public in leading academic journals, including Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Organization Science, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Academy of Management Annals, Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior, Leadership Quarterly, Information & Management and Organizational Research Methods, among others. Dr. Hill has translated her research into articles for Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review, and her work has been featured in major media outlets such as the New York Times and Forbes.

Dr. Hill received her Ph.D. in Business and Management from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also holds an MBA in International Business and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with German. Dr. Hill is a member of the academic honor societies of Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Kappa Phi.

Andrew Hodge (M.B.A ‘02) is the President of Virginia and North Carolina Wholesale for Atlantic Union Bank, where he manages teams across the Bank’s entire geographic footprint, from Georgia through Virginia and up to Pennsylvania. Before his promotion in 2024, he served as the Head of Middle Market and Specialty Banking for Atlantic Union Bank. In total, he has worked in commercial banking for 23 years.

Hodge manages 115 FTEs and approximately $6B in loans outstanding among all the teams. The teams include nine general industries C&I teams, a government contracting specialty team, an asset-based lending team and a corporate banking team. With priorities in order of importance being soundness, profitability and growth, the teams proactively manage the portfolio, diversification of the portfolio and grow both interest and non-interest income.

Hodge has specialized in building and growing commercial teams, including middle market and corporate banking. He successfully built out a corporate syndications team and helped build out an asset-based lending team. His teams have grown loans, deposits and non-interest income annually over the past seven years.

Hodge is a part of the Wholesale Leadership Team, charged with setting strategy and formulating priorities and structure that allow the line of business to grow responsibly. Outside of his role, Hodge serves as a Board of Visitor for Old Dominion University and is a board member on several organizations, including the Tidewater Community College Foundation and the Hampton Roads Workforce Council Foundation.

Zach Hrynowski is a senior education researcher at Gallup, where he is responsible for leading several of the organization’s largest education survey research efforts, including projects with the Walton Family Foundation and Lumina Foundation, and connecting the impact of a quality education to broader outcomes such as workplace engagement and overall wellbeing. In his role, Hyrnowski conducts quantitative data analysis, authors and presents reports to highlight study findings and advises during survey instrument design.  He also contributes to Gallup’s national higher education research and has been a writer for Gallup News.

Prior to joining Gallup, Hrynowski served as director of student programs at the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations, where he was responsible for administering the organization’s academic programming for university students and faculty. Hrynowski received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Northeastern University.

Umar Husain (B.A. ‘17) is a leader in McKinsey’s New York office, where he advises life sciences, financial services and technology organizations on driving strategies and innovations that are digital- and AI-enabled. His work spans corporate strategy, business-driven technology transformation, AI strategy and deployment, digital talent, productivity and operating models across R&D, commercialization and operations. He also leads McKinsey’s technology capabilities service line for Life Sciences & Healthcare, shaping the Firm’s perspective on the “people side of the equation” in sustaining complex digital and analytics initiatives. In addition, Umar drives relevant work across the People & Organizational Performance and Strategy practices.

Prior to McKinsey, Umar worked at IBM as a Technology Analyst, delivering learning and development technology for the U.S. defense community, and at the White House in the Executive Office of the President, supporting Cabinet-level officials on diplomatic trade missions. He holds a B.A. in History from The George Washington University and studied International Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

Dr. Chris Kayes (Ph.D., Case Western Reserve University) is a professor of management at the George Washington University School of Business and a senior fellow at its Center for Excellence in Public Leadership. He has taught at universities worldwide, including the Singapore Institute of Management, Helsinki School of Economics and Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. He also serves as faculty fellow at the Institute for Experiential Learning and the Learning and Innovation Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

He is the author, co-author or editor of five books: Judgment and Leadership (Edward Elgar), Contemporary Organizational Behavior (Pearson), Organizational Resilience (Oxford), The Learning Advantage (Macmillan) and Destructive Goal Pursuit (Macmillan). His research on experiential learning, leadership and resilience has appeared in more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 media outlets, including The Washington Post, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC and NPR.

Dr. Kayes served four terms as chair of the Department of Management, was a founding director of the Master’s in Human Resource Management Program and was interim dean, where he led a financial turnaround, revived the doctoral program and strengthened ties with alumni and industry.

Dr. Kayes has consulted with organizations including the World Bank, U.S. Department of State, Capital One, Northrop Grumman, Oracle, the Canadian Olympic Committee, NIH and the U.S. Army. He has received two Outstanding Teaching awards from GW and continues to advise, teach and speak internationally.

He is currently a trustee of GW’s Medical Faculty Associates and the Employee Benefits Research Institute, and was previously a trustee of the International Baccalaureate (“IB”) Organization based in Geneva. Henry Lofton is a results-driven technology C-suite leader and advisor with extensive experience in executive management, strategic digital transformation and delivering impactful IT solutions. His expertise spans IT service management, strategic planning, vendor relationships and network management. Committed to driving innovation, optimizing processes and achieving results, Lofton has successfully led large-scale IT operations, managed critical projects and built high-performing teams.

Lofton currently serves as Deputy Chief Technology Officer (DCTO) at OCTO, overseeing 12 direct and 600+ indirect reports. He guides strategy and architecture to enhance IT effectiveness, efficiency and resilience while ensuring strong security and privacy in IT services. He launched DC-NET, the municipal service provider for Washington, DC, which delivers fiber network service to 850+ local and federal agencies, non-profits and healthcare institutions, supporting 160,000 employees. Lofton also coaches government executives on procurement, contracting strategy, technology and governance to improve cloud readiness and accelerate program adoption, ensuring systems are acquired, integrated and operated in line with requirements.

Previously, Lofton served as Associate CTO for two years and DC-NET Senior Manager of Operations for nine years. In these roles, he optimized network performance, resolved technical issues, improved operational efficiency, enhanced connectivity and implemented scalable digital transformations, including data migration and wireless technology solutions. He oversaw critical infrastructure, including 840 miles of fiber supporting D.C. government operations, demonstrating a consistent record of driving reliable, efficient results across complex IT environments.

Dr. Helmuth Ludwig is a Professor of Practice for Strategy and Entrepreneurship at SMU’s Cox School of Business in Dallas where he teaches courses e.g. on Technology and AI Strategy. He is also the Co-Executive Director of the Hart Institute for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at SMU and an Executive Fellow of the Strategic Management Department at the IESE, Barcelona, Spain. He serves on the Board of Directors of Hitachi Ltd, Tokyo and Humanetics Group, Farmington Hill. He is senior advisor to Bridgepoint LLC and to Zscaler, Inc.

From 1990 until 2019 he worked at Siemens, a leading technology company, in different functions and regions: global CIO (until 2019), CEO Siemens Industry Sector North America (until 2014) and President Siemens PLM Software (until 2010). Earlier in his career, Helmuth had several international assignments at Siemens in Europe, Latin America and Asia.

He has been a board member of several public and private organizations: Circor International (Chair), Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (Chair), Siemens Electrical, Inc (Chair), Siemens Industry Inc. (member) and Siemens Corporation (member).

Helmuth holds an engineering degree from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, MBA from the University of Chicago as well as Doctorate from the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel.

His publications include "How Siemens Democratized Artificial Intelligence” and “How Boards of Directors Govern Artificial Intelligence” both coauthored with Professor Benjamin van Giffen. Together with Andy Brown he published the book “Cybersecurity: Seven Steps for Boards of Directors”.

Jack McDougle is President and CEO of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, where he works with business, government and academic leaders to drive the region’s economic transformation. He focuses on building an economy that is more resilient, inclusive and fueled by innovation and digital growth.

Over his career, McDougle has worked across government, business and the nonprofit sector, giving him a unique perspective on how economies evolve. His experience ranges from shaping national economic policy at the U.S. Department of Commerce to guiding business strategy and transformation in the banking sector. He also played a leading role at the Council on Competitiveness, where he helped craft the first national manufacturing strategy in decades, engaging leaders from industry, labor, government and universities to strengthen America’s long-term competitiveness.

With nearly 25 years of experience, he is a dedicated and highly insightful senior healthcare executive with multi-specialty expertise, focusing on strategic planning and analysis, business transformation, financial analysis, data & analytics and continuous improvement. Moorthy has worked with a variety of healthcare entities on crafting long-term vision, maximizing market standing and launching new products and solutions.

Moorthy's extensive healthcare experience is in payer-provider partnership strategy, market access & reimbursement, value-based care initiatives, payment analytics and managed care. Before McKinsey, he directed technology partnership initiatives at EY, developing joint solutions with leading tech companies to serve public sector clients.

Şevin Yeltekin is the dean of the George Washington University School of Business and a professor of finance. A distinguished economist and academic leader, Yeltekin brings to GW a commitment to innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and preparing students for leadership in a rapidly evolving global economy.

Before joining GW in August 2025, Yeltekin served as the dean of the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester and the Frontier Communications/Rochester Telephone Professor of Business Administration and Economics. During her tenure, she led the development of the Simon 2025 strategic plan, prioritized investment in research and faculty recruitment and oversaw the creation of forward-looking academic programs—including MS degrees in Business Analytics & Applied AI, and AI in Business. She launched a generative AI initiative to embed AI education across the curriculum and forged new interdisciplinary partnerships with other schools and fields.

Yeltekin is a recognized expert in macroeconomics. Her research spans fiscal policy design, social insurance, computational methods and asset pricing implications of macroeconomic policy. She is review editor for Frontiers in Blockchain, an advisory board member of the Carnegie-Rochester-NYU Conference Series on Public Policy and VP of the Society for Economic Measurement. She has served on the editorial boards of Operations Research, Journal of Monetary Economics, Macroeconomic Dynamics and Quantitative Economics.

Located in downtown Washington, D.C., the George Washington University School of Business is easily accessible by taxi, rideshare, bus or subway (Metrorail) from the region's airports.

From Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), take the Blue Line of the Metrorail from the Ronald Reagan National Airport Station to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Station.

From Dulles International Airport (IAD), take the Silver Line Express bus to the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail Station, and then take the Silver Line to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Station. You may also take the Washington Flyer private bus service directly to many downtown hotels.

From Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), take the Super Shuttle or Amtrak train directly to Union Station in downtown Washington, D.C., then take the Metrorail Red Line from Union Station to the Metro Center Station and transfer to the Blue, Silver or Orange Lines to go to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Station.
